Pray…pray…pray…

In the last couple of decades, lots have said about planning and less about prayers; more about “KPI”…Key Performance Indicators…I wish it represents “Key Prayers Indicators.” In the early 20th Century, it was prayers that led to the great outpouring of the Holy Spirit that birth forth the Pentecostal Movements…subsequently the Assemblies of God was formed. We hear great stories about the manifestations of the God’s Presence and power that brought about reverence, miracles (transformations of lives, healings etc) and a great missions movement!  It was in prayer meetings that many were sent by the Holy Spirit to countries they had never heard of.

Don’t get me wrong, I believe in planning. However, Proverbs 16:9 helps me balance my planning and praying, “In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.” This verse is well illustrated in Acts 16:6-10, how the Holy Spirit directed Paul from his original plan. James too counseled businessmen in the congregation to entrust their business plans to God (James 4:13-15).  Likewise I counsel you to seek God first in every venture, whether it’s your ministry, business, work, study and your career plans.

Take heed to the lyrics of this beautiful hymn written by Joseph Scriven (1820-1886),

Oh, what peace we often forfeit,
Oh, what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer!

As we enter into this new decade, I pray that we will give priority to prayer. Listen to Dr David Cho, pastor of the largest Church in the world, “Prayer is the key to revival. Prayer is the key to success. Prayer is the key to personal victory. I ask you to pray. I ask you to pray. I ask you a third time to pray. Prayer is the foundation of the Kingdom of God. Only through prayer can we carry out God’s command in our lives.”

So, let’s give time to pray…pray…pray!
