Susan Heng’s Story

31 December 2013

Psalm 91

V1 – He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

V9-10 – If you make the Most High your dwelling – then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent.

V14-15 – ” Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.

He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble. I will deliver him and honour him.”

I’m so grateful to the Lord for being my peace, provider, protector, shield, healer and my all in all. In Him, I live and I breathe and have my being. I want to thank Him for the amazing grace that allowed me to go through the storm.

I discovered some abnormalities on my left breast during my yearly check up in April 2013, and was uncomfortable with the surgeon’s recommendation. Thank God I went for a second opinion and the tissues were sent for a biopsy. The test confirmed that the cells were cancerous. Despite the terrifying news, God gave me a deep sense of peace and calmness – so much so that my daughter got worried about me!

I proceeded to undergo pre-op staging investigations, and thank God that all other parts of my body were cleared of cancer! However, an abdominal scan revealed an ovarian mass of 9.2 cm on my right ovary. The gynecologist wanted an immediate excision due to the risk that it might burst any time. I had the confidence that God would sustain me till my scheduled breast surgery, and undergo both at the same time. And He did!

I thank God for the successful operations, and I was able to get out of my bed by the following day. I was discharged by the 4th day! Thank God for covering my hospital bill through my insurance coverage and Medisave. I did not have to pay any cash at all! I am also thankful for all the brothers and sisters who visited and overflowed my fridge with healthy food!

While deciding on the follow up treatment for me, the Oncologist recommended combination chemotherapy followed with radiation and medication based on the tests results. As I sought the Lord, backed with prayer from the dancers, cell members and BCM sups, I felt the Lord said, ‘No need chemo; no need chemo; radiation will do.’

By faith I told the Oncologist that I would not have any chemotherapy and will only go for the radiation treatment. I responded that I am trusting the Lord to heal me completely! I was advised to avoid the sun while receiving my treatment. Whenever I was commuting for treatment, God never failed to provide clouds to shield me from the sun. Furthermore, I did not suffer from any side effects of the treatment! Despite working in the day, and going for treatment in the evening, God gave me strength to still cook for my family! With Him

As I look back on 2013, I can not help by thank God for His goodness and mercy, and for everything that He has done for me. When I call out to Him, He hears and answers me. He watches over my coming and going. His strength and grace are sufficient for me. Without God, I would not have the courage the face cancer, and go through the storm. Jesus is my rest!

All glory to His Mighty Name!!
